Nick Santonastasso is an unbelievable Lifter. The 20-year-old from New Jersey was born missing both of his legs, his right arm and all but one finger on his left hand. He’s one of the most inspiring people you’ll see in the gym because he has never let that get in his way. We had the pleasure of interviewing Nick. Read below and get to know him. What is your athletic background, and how did you get involved with lifting?
my athletic background started when I was a junior in high school. I wanted to become a wrestler, all my friends were wrestlers but at the time my shorter arm was very fragile and pointy. I made the decision to amputate some of it so I could wrestle. was JV my junior year and my senior year I was the varsity 106lb. I realized how much I motivated others by simply doing what I wanted and that’s how I tapped into lifting.
What keeps you motivated?
my friends, family and my supporters. whenever I am feeling down I’ll read through my Instagram page and the messages. people look up to me and look to me for motivation. i look at it as my duty to stay motivated for those who need some light in their life.
My mentor Christopher Cavallini, CEO of Nutrition Solutions. Was in and out of foster homes and living on the streets to becoming a successful CEO of the best meal prep company out there
What does your current training split look like?
Monday- back Tuesday- chest Wednesday- arm[s] Thursday- lower body Friday- shoulders Saturday- I hit weak areas such as lats, upper and lower chest, lower abs basically my critique day
What’s your favorite body part to train?
As my chest gets more developed and my symmetry gets better, I have started to enjoy lifting chest a lot! It’s a beautiful thing to see a body part develop more and more after training it so hard
Which do you prefer, and why…steady state cardio or HIIT?
steady state i do prefer, easier to listen to audio books as well….HIIT really gets my heart racing though, super challenging
What are some of the most common mistakes made when someone is trying to get ripped?
cutting carbs completely! super low carb diets may be effective short-term but in the long run they are bad for your body and everybody think they need to cut an extreme amount of carbs to get shredded
I have a new prosthetic for my shorter arm to help lift more efficiently on that side and I was trying to get off the seat of a machine and I fell, flipped and landed on my back hahaha

you can have anything you want in this world as long as you work hard enough for it- I say this a lot not sure the specific person
If you want something you’ve never had you have to be willing to do things you’ve never done before
Do you have any gym, pet peeves?
guys who come into the gym with a big ego, golden era bodybuilding was about the brotherhood between everyone lifting, sharing the same passion together. everyone is so judgmental nowadays

Meal prep from Nutrition Solutions, gallon of hydra charge from KAGED and depending on if I’m bulking….some Ben and Jerrys haha
How do you prepare meals? Do you cook daily or cook for the week?
I am an athlete for Nutrition Solutions so I’m grateful that all my meals get delivered every Thursday!

What are your favorite cheat meals and foods?
Boneless Wings, hibachi and I love pasta but its too much is dangerous!

What is the most challenging thing you deal with about consistently staying in top shape?
Getting 4-6 meals in daily is sometimes IS difficult but its part of the process!
What is your greatest achievement so far?
I was very proud of myself for being contacted to work with Reebok on the Be More Human Campaign a few months ago. My physique is nowhere close to where I can be
If you could interview one person alive or dead, who would it be and why?
Mahatma Gandhi because he made a massive movement all without violence, that is truly amazing and brought the idea of freedom to the masses.
What are some of your best diet, nutrition and supplementation tips for someone who wants to get ripped?
Consistency is key, staying consistent with your training, supplements, and diet is the winning formula. Hard work and consistency over everything
What does your current supplementation plan look like?
I take 3 scoops of l-citrulline and 1 scoop of creatine from KAGED, Post workout is 1 scoop of Kaged protein. Pills- digestive enzymes, vitamin c, fish oil
incline barbell- contraction and the process of building my weak points such as upper chest. shrugs- my traps mind muscle is one of the strongest. Leg raises [butt raises for me] my lower abs are a work in progress, I love building my weak points up! Wide rows- my back is one of the biggest parts on me. pull ups- love these because they are new to my routine and something I have recently adapted so I can do them.
Favorite activities and hobbies you enjoy when away from the gym?
Eating haha and spending time with my family and friends

Christmas is the one holiday where the majority of my family comes together
What are your future goals, dreams, and plans?
break into the mainstream modeling industry, become one of the best motivational speakers out there, public figure and provide financial freedom for myself, family and friends
